The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Sneak Peek Notes

By Paco McCullough

At the sneak preview of Straw Dogs, we were given a little treat: an eight minute preview of David Fincher's upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Here are some notes about what I saw.

Most of the clips are narration, setting up the plot. Daniel Craig plays a disgraced journalist hired to solve a 40 year old murder case. As he begins to get in over his head, he hires Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) to help him with the case. Anyone who has seen the original film (or, I assume read the books) should know that the entire film rests on the shoulders of Lisbeth. The clips we were shown made me excited to see Miss Mara play the hacker-punk. Her delivery of the few lines shown was spot on, and a brief physical altercation in a subway seemed in character. All of the shots were very Fincher-esque and well composed. This trailer made it look more like a thriller than an action movie, righting a wrong of the first trailer. Unfortunately, we never saw more than a half a minute of any one scene, but from what I saw, this is looking like the movie to see this winter.

  1. Did the scenes feature any music by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross?

That's what I would like to know as I plan to watch the original Millennium trilogy next month in anticipation for Fincher's new film.

  2. There was a short piece near the end. It was instrumental, about a minute and a half long, as images flashed at about the speed they do in the first trailer. I can't say with certainty that it was them, as we were given no real information, but it sounded like their previous work. For the most part though, it was voiceover of various actors explaining the first 30 minutes or so of the plot
